So Like A Woman
by Dee
SO LIKE A WOMAN
so like a woman, you forgave my transgressions
and opened your arms to welcome me back.
with eyes closed, you sat and patiently listened
as i vowed my repentence and gladly stayed.
as always, you were selfless and undemanding.
and you soothed my quilt as if i were a child,
shouldering my pain and assuming my burdens,
however foolish and undeserving i'd become.
so like you, with a quiet and gentle strength,
with gracious understanding you put my needs first.
feeling quite humble, i reverently kissed you,
unwilling to see the pain i had put on your face.
so like a woman, you gave me more chances,
preferring your heartache to the cold empty house.
so once again we began to replay familiar mistakes,
neither of us willing to face the hard bleak facts
that you, sweet woman, were better off without me,
and that i would inevitably hurt you again.
despite old wounds that changed us too deeply,
so like a woman, i simply could not walk away.
