LOSS

wanting to look deep in your heart,
my eyes sought yours,
needing to understand
why even your touch wasn't the same,
afraid to know
why laying at your side
i was still so alone,
and just how the flush,
the rush of passion
had become just that.
the smell of sex hung between us.
my pulse slowed,
limbs lanquid with release
as i rolled away,
letting me postpone yet again
my needy search for that missing warmth
within your embrace,
settling again for sex,
forgetting the rest,
unable to connect,
to find our love misplaced
or that you'd simply forgot,
your gaze cool despite this heat.
two not quite one are we now.
my eyes closed
least you see the tears
that blurred my view.
it must be them,
or the mist of years past and
dreams lost, keeping us apart.
i looked again but
your eyes were already closed.
