Hopelessly In Love

10/01

Last night when I held you close
I thought I was crying
And I tried so very hard
To keep all my emotions at bay
Then as our cheeks caressed each other
I realized you were crying too
And it was the mingling of our tears
That bound us tightly together
The strength of our emotions spilling over
Staining us with their more tangible form

What has happened between us?
Did I blink and miss the many miles
The distance bringing us to this point
Suddenly, while holding you in my arms
I am faced with the harshest reality
Of being second in the race of love
It's the aching hopelessness of knowing
That I'll never win against fear
Of knowing that things will never change
So how did I get to this point?
Where forward only maintains the hurt
But moving back would surely kill me
