The Rooms

you were never what i wanted
and you were never who i longed for
but you were always what i needed
and i never knew i needed you
and you were deeper than i first thought
and you were stronger than i'd like to admit i'm not
and you were more patient than all the stupid things i did
but i never knew i needed you
when it came down to someone leaving
we both knew it was coming soon
that doesn't mean i had to like it
doesn't mean i wanted to leave you
your house was all i ever dreamed of
your room was always where i wanted to be
and your bed was more inviting than any other bed
but i never knew i needed you
because your arms were always open
your lips always soft and soothing
your hands always knew just where to stay
and i should have known then i needed you
and when all our friends said it was over
we did not put up a fight
i wonder sometimes if we should have
though the only thing, was giving the right one
but i never knew i needed you
and i guess i've paid for that
in that now i haven't got you
and i'll never get you back
